The Expedition
Route: Wellington, New Zealand - around the world - Wellington, New Zealand.
Distance: 15,000 miles direct (add 1,000-2,000 miles for deviation)
Duration: 12-18 months.
Construction
This 7.4mtr long boat is one of the latest Phil Morrison designs. It is constructed of 20mm thick core cell foam, and sheathed in a hybrid kevlar/glass, using aircraft grade epoxy resins.
The craft for the ICE Expedition will provide a home for up to 20 months. She has to be able to carry sufficient supplies for 10 months duration, as well as being able to withstand some of the world's worst weather and yet remain light enough to be rowed by one man.
About Oliver Hicks
Olly began adventuring aged 17, cycling 1,000 miles from Lands End to John O' Groats in 1999.
In 2003 he completed the Marathon Des Sables. A 150 mile race across the Sahara Desert carrying all supplies.
In 2003 and again in 2006 he completed the Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Marathon - 125 miles non-stop.
In 2004 he completed the Yukon River Quest. The world's longest canoe race - 400 miles through the Canadian wilderness, finishing 5th in class.
In 2005, he became the first person to row solo across the Atlantic from USA to England as well as the youngest to row any ocean solo.
